The Mehran bank scandal also known as Mehrangate, was a major political scandal in the history of Pakistan between 1990-1994 in which senior politicians and political parties were found to have been bribed by Pakistan Army and intelligence officers, from ISI, to prevent the re-election and to destabilize the government of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

Initiated by Pakistan Army's Chief of Army Staff General Mirza Aslam Beg with the alleged support of President Ghulam Ishaq Khan payments of up to 140 million PkR were made by the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director-General Lieutenant-General Asad Durrani and Corps of Engineers Engineer-in-Chief Lieutenant-General Javed Nasir via the owner of Mehran Bank Yunus Habib. Intelligence funds were deposited in Mehran bank in 1992 propping up what was an insolvent bank as a favor for its owner's help in loaning money to the Inter-Services Intelligence in 1990 that was used in the creation of the right wing alliance Islami Jamhoori-Ittehad (IJI) and bankrolling the campaigns of many opponents of the PPP.

The scandal subsequently broke after the new ISI Director-General Lieutenant-General Javed Ashraf Qazi decided to transfer the intelligence fund back to state owned banks as per official rules. Mehran Bank was unable to return the money due to its poor financial state and collapsed. It was later discovered that large sums had been siphoned off to 39 fictitious parties.

In 1995, Mehran Bank was amalgamated with the National Bank and in 1996 the NBP had to make full provision for Mehran's liabilities which resulted in a net loss that year to the bank of Rs 1.260 billion.

On April 20, 1994, giving details about the payments made by Mr Habib to generals, politicians and political parties, the then Interior Minister, Naseerullah Babar, told the National Assembly that the main beneficiary of his largesse was former army chief General Mirza Aslam Beg who received Rs140 million.

Yunus Habib was arrested on April 7, 1994 for misappropriation in the sale proceeds of the Dollar Bearer Certificates. On Dec 14, 1995, Younus Habib was convicted of fraud and embezzlement and given a sentence of 10 years rigorous imprisonment by the Special Court for Offences in Banks in Sindh.

PPP office closed in entire districts of Hazara Division

ABBOTTABAD :Former Provincial Minister and Divisional president of Pakistan Peoples  party Shamaroze Khan Jadoon alongwith his entire divisional and district cabinets of Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Batagram and Torghar have resigned from their offices here at press club on Monday. Hundreds of PPP angry workers and office bearers have announced their protest against the provincial leadership of the party for withdrawel of senate ticket from Shamaroze Khan Jadoon have  decided to close down all offices of PPP in Hazara division with packing up of political activities from the PPP platform.  This all is being done in anger over the withdrawal of Senate Ticket from PPP divisional president Shamroze Khan Jadoon and also ignoring Hazara Division in developmental and other activities by the PPP provincial and central leadership in the last four years. Shamroze Khan Jadoon, Dr.Qazi Adnan, the former member of central committee, Mehdi Zaman Khan Advocate, Pervez Akhter Rana, Mian Tariq and Waseem Jadoon also spoke at the occasion. A large number of PPP workers and office bearers who had also tendered their resignations from all the six districts of Hazara were also present and they all lashes out the PPP leadership for not consulting the divisional leadership before forcing Shamroze Khan Jadoon to withdraw the Senate ticket. Shamroze Khan Jadoon  in his statement said that he as made divisional president by Benazir Bhutto in 1996 at Nodero keeping the sacrifices and services rendered by his family as his elder brother was one of founder of PPP in Hazara Division and till then, he was working for PPP . He disclosed that he was awarded ticket by the PPP central committee comprises of Faryal Talpur, Ameen Faheem, Jehangir Badar, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Sardar Ali Khan and Rukshana Bangash but reasons best known to two of his proposers and seconders, both provincial ministers Syed Ahmed Hassan Shah and Shuja Salam Khan back out from their stand and supported Saifullah Bangash. Shamroze Khan said that he had left no option to surrender his office and to work only as simple worker. While replying to a querry, he told that though he and other office workers are being approached by the PPP provincial leadership to hold on the offices but workers and he himself are stick to decision and will decide the future strategy after consultation with local workers and leaders. He was quiet about the role of PPP officials who resigned in the forthcoming general election and said that they are not in hurry as they had given blood to the party and will not throw away their more then 40 years contribution. We will remain in the party but will never allow any minister from PPP to hold any sort of public activity in Hazara Division, they argued. Waseem Khan Jadoon, Mehdi Zaman Advocate and Pervez Akhter Rana remarked thatPPP central and provincial leadership is losing great opportunity in Hazara division by sidelining workers who are devotees of great ideology of Z.A.Bhutto. They also leveled serious charges on the elected MPA’s and ministers from Hazara division for their negative role and alleged that they had sold the rights of people of Hazara and also of workers.

PPP Faced another set back Resignation from party continues in Hazara

ABBOTTABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party received another set back in Hazara Division when one of old die hard worker and divisional president of Youth Wing Waseem Khan Jadoon stepped down from divisional and provincial offices as mark of protest for withdrawl of senate ticket from Shamaroz Khan Jadoon. It may be pointed out  that PPP workers and office bearers have been showing anger over the decision of PPP provincial and central leadership over the  withdrawal of Senate Ticket from former provincial minister and divisional president PPP Hazara Shamroze Khan Jadoon. Till date, in volley of resignations by the office bearers of PPP at District and Tehsil level at Havelian, Abbottabad, Haripur, Mansehra along with office bearers of Labour wing, Lawyers wing and of more then 52 local union council units have resigned. Resignation of Waseem Khan Jadoon was set be another blow to the PPP in Hazara and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as he was considered to the oldest worker with more then 22 years affiliation and he was one of the few members of PPP who was called by Benazir Bhutto at UK and Islamabad on different occasion and he was also offered jobs by the former prime minister but he preferred to stay as worker in the Party. Waseem Khan Jadoon remarked that PPP present leadership at province and central level is ignoring the party workers who are the back bone of the party and dishearted workers are very much disappointed with the treatment which is being given to the workers and added that this will be a great loss to the party and damage done by anti workers decisions will be irreparable loss. He added that due to tiring efforts by the party divisional , district and Tehsil office bearers, PPP has found roots among masses despite all hardships and in coming elections, PPP will be the major loser in Hazara division. However he also lashes out at the role of PPP MPA’s and others for their role in the issue of awarding of ticket of Senate to Shamroze Khan Jadoon and later withdrawal of ticket. Meanwhile Shamaroz Khan Jadoon alongwith divisional leadership of PPP has also decided to formally announced their resignation on Monday (today) during a press conference.

ايبٹ آباد … ايبٹ آباد کي کاغان کالوني کے مکان ميں گيس پائپ لائن پھٹنے سے دھماکے ميں ايک بچي اور اس کا والدجاں بحق اوردو خواتين زخمي ہوگئے. پوليس کے مطابق علي الصبح کاغان کالوني ميں عاشق نامي شخص کے گھرکي بالائي منزل ميں زور دار دھماکا ہوا جس سے کمرے ميں سوئے ہوئے رشيد اوراس کي دوسالہ بيٹي شمائلہ موقع پر جاں بحق جبکہ فہميدہ اور خالدہ نامي دوخواتين زخمي ہوگئيں ،زخمي خواتين کو فوري طور پر ايوب ميڈيکل کمپليکس منتقل کرديا گيا ہے، دھماکا گيس پائپ لائن پھٹنے سے بتايا جاتا ہے تاہم پوليس دھماکے کے بارے ميں مزيد تحقيقات کررہي ہے.

حقوق دیئے بغیر پاکستان کی بقا ممکن نہیں، بابا حیدر

تحریک صوبہ ہزارہ کے سربراہ بابا حیدر زمان نے کراچی میں جلسے سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے کہا ہے کہ لوگوں کو حقوق دیئے بغیر پاکستان کی بقا ممکن نہیں حکمران ملک کی بقا چاہتے ہیں تو مزید صوبوں کا مطالبہ پورا کریں۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ آج کا جلسہ ہزارہ کی تاریخ میں سب سے بڑا جلسہ ہے، حکومت دیکھ لے ہزارہ وال کیا مطالبہ کررہے ہیں۔  انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم حکومت سے مطالبہ کرتے ہیں وہ لوگوں کو حقوق دے، اگر پاکستان کی بقا چاہتے ہیں تو صوبوں کے مطالبے پورے کئے جائیں، لوگوں کو حقوق دیئے بغیر ملک کی بقا ممکن نہیں۔ بابا حیدر زمان نے کہا کہ وزیراعظم اپنے گھر کے وزیراعظم ہیں، بلوچستان کی طرح ہزارہ کی محرومی انتہا کو پہنچ چکی ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ ایم کیو ایم نے وفاقی جماعت ہونے کا ثبوت دیا ہے، تحریک صوبہ ہزارہ ایک سیاسی جماعت ہے، الیکشن لڑ کر اپنے پاں پر کھڑے ہوں گے، کچھ لوگ تحریک صوبہ ہزارہ پر تنقید کر رہے ہیں، ہم انتخاب لڑ کر اپنے حقوق حاصل کریں گے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ میں نے ہزارہ قوم کے لئے ایک فورم بنا دیا ہے، چیف جسٹس نے ہزارہ کے نوجوانوں کی شہادت پر ازخود نوٹس نہیں لیا۔

نئے صوبوں کے قیام سے ملک مستحکم، مسائل کم ہوں گے

کراچی: تحریک صوبہ ہزارہ کے قائد بابا حیدر زمان نے کہا ہے کہ ہزارہ صوبے کی تحریک پیش کرنے پر وہ ایم کیو ایم کے قائد الطاف حسین کو خراج تحسین پیش کرتے ہیں۔ نئے صوبوں کے قیام سے ملک مستحکم اور مسائل کم ہوں گے۔ کراچی میں ایم کیو ایم کے مرکز نائن زیرو پہنچنے پر تحریک صوبہ ہزارہ کے قائد بابا حیدر زمان کا پرتپاک استقبال کیا گیا۔ بابا حیدر زمان نے ایم کیو ایم کے  قائد الطاف حسین سے ٹیلی فونک گفتگو بھی کی۔ الطاف حسین نے بابا حیدر زمان کی ہمت اور ثابت قدمی پر انہیں خراج تحسین پیش کیا اور ہزارہ صوبے کے قیام کے لیے اپنے مکمل تعاون کا یعقین دلایا ۔ میڈیا سے بات چیت میں بابا حیدر زمان کا کہنا تھا کہ ایم کیو ایم نے مظلوموں کی ترجمان کی ہزارہ صوبہ وقت کی آواز ہے ۔ ایم کیو ایم کے رہنما ڈاکٹر فاروق ستار کا کہنا تھا کہ ہزارہ صوبے کا قیام بنیادی حقوق بحال کرے گا ہزارہ کے عوام خود کو تنہا نہ سمجھیں ۔ ڈاکٹر فاروق ستار نے کہا کہ کل کراچی میں ہزارہ صوبے کے قیام کے لیے ہونے والا جلسے سے بھائی کو بھائی سے لڑانے کی سازش ناکام ہو گی ۔ ایم کیو ایم نے ہزارہ صوبے کے قیام کے لیے کل کراچی کے علاقے کالا پل پر ہونے والے جلسے میں شرکت کا اعلان کیا ہے۔
